Fairfield U. Residential College Mentoring Program, Recruits Mentors

FAIRFIELD—On Monday, May 22, Fairfield University will host an information session about the Residential College Mentoring Program at 7:00pm in Alumni House.

The Residential Colleges at Fairfield University are a signature program integrating living and learning in the context of a Jesuit education. This established, award-winning program encourages sophomore students to intellectual, social and spiritual exploration through specifically tailored courses and community. During their time in the program, students have the opportunity to explore fundamental questions of identity, community and purpose through Fairfield¹s Sophomore Residential Colleges ‹ Ignatian, Creative Life or Service For Justice. Each College examines three questions: Who am I? Whose am I? Who am I called to become?

A central component of this program, our mentors guide and encourage small groups of 6-8 students as they explore life and vocational issues. Serving as companions for our students, these adults facilitate monthly discussions grounded in the Ignatian model of reflection and discernment and are trained and supported by University staff.

“Students find the mentor sessions to be a haven in a busy world that seems to be constantly evaluating them,” stated Nancy Dallavalle, vice president of Mission & Identity. “Fairfield’s Jesuit mission, that calls us to meet our students as whole persons, not just future resumes, is lived most clearly in the mentor program, as interested adults from the University faculty and staff and members of the surrounding community engage with the hopes, dreams and stresses of being a college sophomore today.”

Our mentor companions have come from all walks of life and include alumni, parents, parishioners and local community members, as well as University faculty and staff. We are currently recruiting enthusiastic individuals willing to share their talents for the next academic year, and invite you to learn more about the Residential Colleges Mentoring program on Monday, May 22 at 7:00pm at an Alumni House reception on campus.

If you have any questions and/or would like to participate, contact Marianne O’Connell Neville, mentor coordinator of the Residential Colleges at 203.254.2404 or mneville@fairfield.edu
