NEWTOWN— The Newtown Knights of Columbus Council 185, along with the Newtown Knights of Columbus assembly 3230 performed a ceremony to honor our veterans on Saturday at St. Rose of Lima cemetery.
A prayer was performed by Monsignor Weiss and a wreath was presented in front of the veteran’s memorial by WW2 battle of the Bulge veteran Mike Lukas. Afterward all flags were replaced on veteran’s graves throughout the cemetery.
Prayer For Memorial Day
God of power and mercy,
you destroy war and put down earthly pride.
Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears,
that we may all deserve to be called your sons
and daughters.
Keep in your mercy those men and women
who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.
