June Reception with Bishop Caggiano

NEW CANAAN—Elena and Steve Schlegel, Chair Couple of the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal and Joy and Tom Cronin, both parishioners of St. Aloysius Parish in New Canaan, hosted a reception at the Cronin’s home Saturday, June 10.

More than 60 people gathered on a lovely June evening with Bishop Frank Caggiano to rekindle and make new friendships.

“The event provided a wonderful opportunity to meet Bishop Frank and learn more about his vision and how we can all play a part in continuing the important work of our diocese,” commented Elena Schlegel.

Bishop Frank shared a personal story of his mother visiting him in Rome ascending the stairs of St. Peter Basilica and how he was inspired to “build the Church.”

Bishop Caggiano answered questions from social media outreach, to providing volunteer opportunities to immigration concerns.

The Schlegels shared their experience of visiting the ministries and programs and saw firsthand the difference they make, whether it is supporting the future of the Church through the support of the seminary program or the Catholic Charities staff who go out to the community in the evening to provide shelter to people living on the streets and in the woods.

ACA director Pam Rittman said that it’s not too late to give to the Appeal. The new “Text to Give” program (Text sharing to 5055 during the month of June) is one of many options including online giving. Parishioners who work for a company with matching gifts program, they should inquire about the program, particularly if their appeal gift is designed toward charities and education.
