BETHEL—As most of the country has been impacted by a triple-digit heat index, the Knights of Pavia Council 48 turned out to resurface the school playground with fresh mulch in preparation for the start of St. Mary’s School in Bethel on Monday.
Traditionally ending in mid-August, this season’s dog days refuse to let go, as one sweltering humid day slips into another, bringing to mind all the most extreme implications of “dog days”—heat, draught, lethargy, fever and severe thunderstorms and forest fires.
Honing the skills learned during this past year’s lingering pandemic, the Pavia Knights have become accustomed to adjusting to the adversity of these changing times by learning to do what they can and not what they can’t.
As these efforts to do what they can do have become almost second nature, in support of their Church or school, or in assistance to their friends and neighbors in need of assistance, the Knights are there.
And neither rain nor snow nor even the heat of the day will dissuade these modern-day Knights from their appointed tasks in solidarity with their priests and response to the needs of their community.
