NEWTOWN—The Newtown Knights of Columbus have awarded the first Rob Courchene-Roy Scholarships to young members of St. Rose of Lima parish.
In 2015, a very active member of the Newtown Knights Rob Courchene-Roy was diagnosed with cancer and in 2016 passed away. Because of their love and affection for Rob, the Knights decided to establish a scholarship in his name.
The scholarship is to be given yearly to one or more squires who are high school seniors and attending college in the fall. The Squires are the youth division of the Knights of Columbus made up of Confirmed young Catholic men who wish to serve St. Rose and the community. Rob’s family including his wife Nora and three children Matthew, Vanessa and youngest Jake, are an integral part of the scholarship process. Jake, at the time of Rob’s passing was a Squire, a recent Newtown High School graduate and had just become a Knight.
In this special inaugural year, the council appointed committee has decided to award three $500 scholarships to Brendan Adams, Noah DiNallo and Walker Previdi. The scholarship was established through At Our Gate Inc., the 501(c)(3) arm of the Knights council at St. Rose Church.
