Connecticut March for Life set for March 20

HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut will host a March for Life on Wednesday, March 20 in the state capital of Hartford. The event will include a rally at the state Capitol building at noon, followed by the march itself at 1 pm.

The Connecticut March for Life is a local offshoot of the national March for Life, which takes place in Washington each January. According to Maureen Ciardiello, the Diocese of Bridgeport’s Coordinator of Respect Life and Project Rachel ministries, local actions are especially important for the faithful to participate in.

“ As many know, states are trying to pass legislation to amend state constitutions to enshrine abortion as a legal right,” she said. “In addition to this, Connecticut legislators are discussing proposals to force Catholic hospitals to make referrals for abortion, and another to allow Connecticut abortionists to provide telehealth, outside of the state, which is a great danger and risk to the mother. We want to respectfully and peacefully make our legislators aware that we do not want these proposals to become law.”

This year at the march, the Diocese of Bridgeport will be taking centerstage. The students of St. Theresa School in Trumbull have been asked to lead the march around Bushnell Park, and will also carry the March for Life banner.

Ciardiello was ecstatic to hear St. Theresa School would lead this year’s march, noting the school and its principal Barbara Logsdail had been a consistent presence at the Connecticut March for Life since its first year.

“It is very exciting that one of our diocesan schools will have the honor of kicking off and leading the Connecticut March for Life this year,” Ciardiello said. “They are a great testament to the Catholic identity being fostered in their school community under the guidance of the pastor of St. Theresa, Father Gannon. Hopefully more of our diocesan schools will join us next year!”

XX parishes and one school in the diocese will be hosting buses to the Connecticut March for Life. A complete list of bus stop locations and sign-up links can be found below:
