Day Two: At the River Jordan

ISRAEL—Day two for the 22 diocesan pilgrims visiting the Holy Land began with a stop at the Jordan River

The group of young adult men and women led by Bishop Caggiano also spent time in Jericho and at the Mountain of Temptations, where Jesus fasted for 40 days and was tempted by the devil.

“This is where the Lord was and now we’re here,” says pilgrim Mike Falbo in the video below as he stands where Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan. “There is an overwhelming sense of peace.”

Fr John Connaughton, Diocesan Director of Vocations, and Fr Joe McQuaide are also making the pilgrimage for young adults sponsored by the diocesan Leadership Institute.

On the first day the pilgrims stopped at the Shepherds Fields, where the angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds to announce that a savior, Jesus, had been born. Then, they proceeded to the Church of the Nativity, to pray Vespers and join in a procession to the grotto where Jesus was born. Each had a brief moment to kiss the spot where our Savior was placed in a manger.

Throughout the week-long pilgrimage the bishop will be offering Mass for the prayer intentions posted on his Facebook page. Like Bishop Caggiano on Facebook: Bishop Frank J. Caggiano or follow him on Twitter @BishopCaggiano.
