Fairfield U To Host Climate Teach-In, March 29

Fairfield University will join the roster of more than 200 teach-in events globally to generate thoughtful input from educators, students, faith leaders, and community members who are deeply concerned about climate change and our future.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 22, 2023) — The Patrick J. Waide Center for Applied Ethics will host a climate teach-in on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at the Dolan School of Business Event Hall. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.

The event will be hosted in connection with the annual Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice organized by Bard College. Fairfield University will join the roster of more than 200 teach-In events globally to generate thoughtful input from educators, students, faith leaders, and community members who are deeply concerned about climate change and our future. The University will host a multidisciplinary faculty panel discussion to address our world’s most pressing issues related to climate change and climate justice.

“This event will serve as a multidisciplinary approach to a conversation about today’s reality and our future when we consider climate change and impact,” said Waide Center for Applied Ethics Distinguished Visiting Professional Richard E. Hyman. “Our actions today can positively impact future generations and we hope this event will serve as a forum to generate engaging dialogue about critical issues.”

The panel will be introduced by Hyman and will include the following Fairfield University faculty members: Assistant Professor of the Practice of Finance Noradeen Farlekas, CFA, Assistant Professor of Physics Robert Nazarian, PhD, Chair and Professor of Counselor Education Dilani Perera, PhD, Director of Applied Ethics David Schmidt, PhD, and Associate Professor of Chemistry Kraig Steffen, PhD.

The Waide Center for Applied Ethics addresses today’s leading ethics issues through advancing learning, research, and programming. The Waide Center collaborates with students, faculty, and regional leaders across a wide variety of fields to develop strategies for managing serious ethical challenges. Standing in the Jesuit tradition of preparing men and women for others, the Waide Center seeks to prepare students to engage in ethics issues in a reflective and pragmatic way.
