Marriage Preparation

“Married couples may also learn to pray, ‘Give us this day our daily love, teach us to love each other, to care for each other.’ The more you entrust yourselves to the Lord, the more your love will be forever, able to renew itself and to overcome every difficulty.” ~ Pope Francis

Dear Newly Engaged Couple,

Congratulations on your engagement!  As a young married woman myself, it brings me great joy to see couples coming to the Church to enter into the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.  What an exciting (and busy!) time in your lives.

This time of your engagement is a period of preparation to help build your marriage on a solid foundation which will last a lifetime.  The following webpage should help you to know the path of your engagement and lay out the necessary steps to take before walking down the aisle.

One key piece of your preparation is our Diocesan Marriage Conference (which some may refer to as Pre-Cana or Marriage Preparation class).  Knowing that on that special day, when you unite yourselves to each other, you are promising to be true to each other through the good times and bad, we want to help prepare you for the inevitable joys and challenges that come with marriage as Christ intended it.  This day will explore the meaning and purpose of marriage, the gift of sexuality, natural family planning and provide you with tools to support a healthy, joy-filled marriage.

Before you begin on this journey of preparation during your engagement, I encourage you to prioritize and nurture a personal relationship with Christ and make that, and that alone, the foundation of your marriage.  When you know and love Christ, it becomes that much easier to truly know and love your spouse!

May God the Father bless you during this time of preparation!  The Church needs beautiful, joyful, faithful, and faith-filled married couples and families.  Please know of my personal prayers for you during this exciting time in your lives!

In Christ,
