BRIDGEPORT—Father Andrew G. Marus, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Stratford, passed away on March 26, at New York Community Hospital in Brooklyn at the age of 72.
The body of Father Marus will be received at 9 am on Monday, April 2, at Holy Name of Jesus Church located at 1950 Barnum Avenue in Stratford. Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 am.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 11 am. Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano will be the principal celebrant.
Interment will take place following the Funeral Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
A native of Bridgeport, Fr. Marus attended St. John Nepomucene School in Bridgeport and Notre Dame High School in Fairfield. He graduated from St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore in 1971.
He was ordained by the Most Rev. Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of Bridgeport, on May 15, 1971 at St. Augustine Cathedral in Bridgeport.
Father Marus served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Peter Parish in Danbury from 1971 – 1974, and Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk from 1974 – 1978. He was a member of the faculty at Saint Joseph High School in Trumbull from 1978 – 1980. He served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Lawrence Parish in Huntington and Saint Andrew Parish in Bridgeport until becoming Temporary Administrator at Saint Andrew Parish in 1988. He then went on to serve as Pastor of Saint Patrick Parish in Bridgeport from 1995 – 2003 at which time he became Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Stratford.
Fr. Marus served as Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish since 2003.
