Fr. John Baran, 59

FAIRFIELD—Rev. John P. Baran, age 59, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, died and entered eternal life on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Bridgeport Hospital.

Father John was born in Derby, son of the late Andrew and Mary Bulbert Baran. Raised in Shelton, he is a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Trumbull, received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Fairfield University, and his Master’s of Divinity degree from St. John’s Seminary, Brighton, MA.

Father John served as a Deacon at St. Joseph’s Parish, South Norwalk, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 30, 1984, by the late Bishop Walter W. Curtis, in St. Augustine Cathedral. He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish, South Norwalk, from 1984-1994 and at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Fairfield, from 1994-2002. Father John was named Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in 2002. His legacy is alive and well through the Community of St. Anthony of Padua Parish.

The body of Father John will be received at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 27, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road, Fairfield, and will lie in state until Taizé Prayer at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:00 am.

The Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano will be the principal celebrant and homilist. Interment will take place immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
