OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIY

The Director of Catechesis and Evangelization is responsible for leading, developing and coordinating all aspects of faith formation, from baptism preparation through mature adult formation. The Director will collaborate with the Pastor and parish leadership to develop and implement a cohesive vision for faith formation and discipleship throughout life and the faith journey.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversees all catechetical and formation efforts within the parish community.
  2. Creates, develops, and sustains opportunities for formation for those seeking to be disciples of Christ via multiple learning and experience styles, such as online, self-paced learning path; in-person individual formation; small group settings; classroom environments; and Retreats, across all ages.
  3. Develops a visionary approach to evangelize faith formation in accordance with the diocesan pastoral vision, The One.
  4. Oversees the formal curricular-based faith formation for youth (children and adolescent), including all aspects of the program:
    1. Administration and registration
    2. Oversight of faith formation finances and budget
    3. Identification, formation, and retention of catechists
    4. Identification of curriculum materials
    5. Development of opportunities for families to journey together in their children’s faith formation
    6. On-going communications with parents leveraging a variety of communication vehicles
  5. Organizes marriage formation for couples seeking to get married in the Catholic Church, accompanying couples to assure that they remain connected to the practice of their faith.
  6. Creates opportunities for formation for parents who wish to have their children baptized in the Catholic faith.
  7. Facilitates RCIA process, ensuring those entering the Church are welcomed and formed not only to receive the Sacraments, but to live a life of faithful discipleship.
  8. Acts as the primary liaison to the Youth Ministry Collaboration with the parishes of the Queen Assumed into Heaven Deanery.
  9. Establishes formation opportunities for adults of all generations.
  10. Establishes parent-specific formation opportunities to better equip parents to share and pass on the faith.
  11. Provides parent formation workshops for parents whose children are being formed for penance and Holy Communion.
  12. Coordinates and directs retreat opportunities and ongoing faith formation for students, their parents and their sponsors preparing for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and for their faith journey after Confirmation.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in either religious education/theology/secondary education, or national certification in youth ministry, background in theology and educational methodologies with a willingness to move toward credential or degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years related ministry experience in a Catholic parish.
  • Demonstrated vision and ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a disciple-making Catholic ministry.
  • Practicing Catholic able to participate in the sacraments of the Church.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and conflict management skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages, diverse communities, and teams of volunteers.
  • Microsoft Office/Suite proficient (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio) and experience utilizing project management software.
  • Engaging teacher/presenter.
  • Solid problem solving and time management skills.
  • Able to multitask efficiently and effectively.
  • Great interpersonal skills, with strong decision-making and leadership capabilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to exceed client expectations.
