Security Guard- Thomas Merton Family Center

The Thomas Merton Family Center (TMFC), a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, located in Bridgeport, CT is seeking a professional and dependable Security Guard (unarmed) to maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and volunteers. This full-time (35 hours/week), benefits-eligible position focuses on prevention, de-escalation, and guest accountability in a high-volume community service setting. The center is open during regular business hours, and the work schedule will be aligned with program operating hours.
Responsibilities
Safety & Building Oversight

Monitor entrances, common areas, dining spaces, and surrounding grounds.

Ensure all guests are properly checked in and out using the tracking system.

Identify unsafe behavior and take preventative, non-confrontational action.

Use de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts calmly.

Maintain a visible and professional security presence.
Documentation & Communication

Complete incident reports and logs accurately and promptly.

Communicate safety concerns to the Operations Manager and staff.

Utilize basic technology systems for tracking and reporting.
Guest Interaction

Work respectfully with a diverse population, including individuals experiencing homelessness.

Support staff during high-traffic meal service and programming hours.

Uphold TMFC policies with professionalism and courtesy.
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Strong observational skills and sound judgment.

Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations.

Reliable and punctual attendance.
Experience Preferred

Experience in security, public safety, military, or law enforcement.

De-escalation or conflict resolution training.

Incident reporting/documentation experience.

Bilingual (English/Spanish).
