STAMFORD — In Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address (often referred to as the Four Freedoms Speech), he proposed four fundamental freedoms that people “everywhere in the world” should enjoy. One of those was Freedom from Want, which Norman Rockwell depicted in his painting of a smiling family gathered around the Thanksgiving table.

At this time of year, I often think about the disparity between those who can easily fill their Thanksgiving tables with plenty of food versus those who live every day wondering where their next meal will come from.

At New Covenant Center, Thanksgiving is a reminder that our guests are hungry and need help every single day of the year–not just during this upcoming holiday stretch.

So I’m very happy to say that we’ll be distributing almost 600 turkeys and fixings again this year to the families who shop each month in our Food Pantry. Your continued participation in our annual turkey donation initiative helps these families fill their Thanksgiving tables more easily–which is something we should all be proud of.

On behalf of the New Covenant Center staff and Advisory Council, I’d like to wish you a joyful Thanksgiving holiday.
