Knights of Columbus to Host Annual Free-Throw Competition

NEW CANAAN—Boys and girls between the ages of nine and 14 will compete in an annual free throw competition on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, in the St. Aloysius School gymnasium in New Canaan, Conn.

The competition is sponsored by the Rev. John H. Stapleton, #2287 Knights of Columbus Council as an athletic outlet for youth and to encourage the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition.  Approximately 2,000 K of C free-throw competitions are held each year throughout the country.

Kids compete within their own gender and age and progress from local level to district, regional and state/province competitions.  All children within the proscribed age range may compete, regardless of whether they are part of the St. Aloysius Church and school community.

The event comes on the heels of Catholic Schools Week, which is being celebrated at St. Aloysius and other Catholic schools throughout the United States this week.

Knights of Columbus Council #2287 was founded through the efforts of the men of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in 1921 and is named after Father John H. Stapleton.
