Letter from Bishop Caggiano Announcing Rosary Weekend

September 19, 2026

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I write to share with you a new tradition that I am establishing for our Diocese, one that will draw us all closer to Christ through the loving intercession. of His Blessed Mother.

Beginning this Fall, the first weekend of October will be celebrated throughout our Diocese as “Rosary Weekend,” an annual observance in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary. This year, Rosary Weekend will fall on October 3 and 4, 2026.

All Sunday Masses celebrated in the diocese that weekend will use the Votive Mass of Our Lady of the Rosary, with the readings taken from the Sunday of Ordinary Time. The homily will reflect on the place that Our Lady plays in our lives as Christians. Special attention will be given to explain the power of the Rosary as a prayer of the heart, pleasing to God.

The Rosary has been, for centuries, one of the great treasures the Church offers her people. It is a prayer that is at once simple enough for a small child and rich enough to occupy a lifetime of contemplation. Through its mysteries, we walk with Mary through the life of her Son: His birth, His teaching and healing ministry, His suffering, and His glorious Resurrection. In praying the Rosary, we do not merely recite words; we enter, with Mary at our side, into the very mysteries of our salvation. I am convinced that in a world so often marked by anxiety, division, loneliness, and excessive distractions, we need Mary’s maternal guidance now more than ever.

At every Mass during Rosary Weekend, all who are present will together recite a prayer of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A printed copy of this prayer will be given to everyone to bring home and pray often. I would encourage you to place the prayer card somewhere visible, and to make it part of your daily prayer.

May Our Lady of the Rosary watch over our Diocese, and may she accompany each of us as we continue our journey of faith together toward, with and in the One, Our Lord Jesus.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano

Bishop of Bridgeport
