Nurses Week 2018 at St Vincent’s Medical Center

BRIDGEPORT—St. Vincent’s Medical center celebrated National Nurses Week from May 6-12. The week was packed with many activities, including the Annual Awards and Recognition Reception, a Blessing of the Hands service, food trucks, a complimentary night shift coffee bar, and a door decorating contest.

Throughout the week, nurses had the option to dress according to daily themes, including the “Old School White,” honoring the history of the nursing profession. Associates and visitors alike also enjoyed a special slide show tribute to the nurses in the main lobby.

During the Awards and Recognition Reception, many nurses were recognized for their nursing excellence and outstanding achievements, including Regina McCay, who was awarded the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association (GBMA) Recognition Award

Bill Hoey, vice president of Mission and Ethics, made a special presentation to Ellen Miller, RN, who obtained a $10k grant from Ascension for her medical mission of completing a clean water system for the people of Santa Maria de Jesus in Guatemala. “This is like the miracle of the loaves and fishes,” said Hoey in making the award, “Ellen took that grant, and with it she has provided clean, fresh water for 25,000 people. She moves mountains.”
