Peter Thomas Farrelly, Jr., former assistant editor of Fairfield County Catholic

SHELTON—Peter Thomas Farrelly, Jr., age 65, a parishioner of St. Lawrence Parish in Shelton, entered into rest on Friday, April 6. He is the beloved husband of 40 years of Mary Jo (Ertola) Farrelly.

Farrelly was born in the Bronx, NY on July 30, 1952. He grew up in Norwalk, attending local Catholic schools and serving as an altar boy at St. Jerome Parish. He graduated from Central Catholic High School (now All Saints School) in 1970. Always active in his faith, he was a lector of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk before moving to Shelton 29 years ago.

He spent his career in journalism and was a retired writer and editor. He started with the Norwalk Hour and went on to become assistant editor of the Fairfield County Catholic, where he helped guide the publication in its early years and earned awards from the Catholic Press Association. He moved on to the Greenwich Time, and finished at the CT Post.

Farrelly was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed building toy models and spending time outdoors fishing, gardening, bird watching, and generally tinkering. He was a longtime NY Mets fan and was a history buff. He was a member of the Heritage Foundation and the Arbor Day Club.

He is the beloved father of Brian Farrelly and his wife Amanda, Kevin, Heather, Sean, and Joseph Farrelly. He also leaves two brothers, Patrick and Thomas Farrelly, three sisters, Ellen Chase, Elizabeth Moreau, and Janet Leone, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Farrelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Peter Farrelly on April 10 at St. Lawrence Church in Shelton. Burial followed in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knights of Columbus Council 2961 in Trumbull.
