Serrans Support Vocations

BRIDGEPORT—You will want to read below the latest newsletter for the Serra Club of Bridgeport. You will find news of the club’s summer barbecue, information on prayer and support for priests, and other items.

The goal of the Serra Club is to promote vocations to the priesthood and other forms of consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church.

Serra USA was formed in 1935. It happened when a small group of lay people in Seattle decided to form an organization to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life. As a result, they chose Father Junipero Serra, the great missionary, as their patron and named the organization SERRA Club of Seattle.

Serrans are lay Catholics found around the world. They are men and women of all ages and from all walks of life. Members range from lawyers, doctors, and business people, to nurses, clerks, stay at home workers, and retirees. All are dedicated to promote and foster vocations.

The objectives of Serra are:To foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church, as a particular vocation to service and to support priests in their sacred ministry; Also, to encourage and affirm vocations to consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; Finally, to assist members to recognize and respond in their own lives, to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit.

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Director in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps; so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom and heroes of sacrifice; steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man; apostles of Your glory and sanctifiers of souls.
Amen.
Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us.

Do you know a young man discerning priesthood?  Encourage him, pray for him, offer him your support!  Consider introducing him to Fr. John Connaughton, Director of Vocations. Please contact Fr. John at  frconnaughton@diobpt.org.
“The Lord anointed us in Christ with the oil of gladness, and this anointing invites us to accept and appreciate this great gift: the gladness, the joy of being a priest. Priestly joy is a priceless treasure, not only for the priest himself but for the entire faithful people of God: that faithful people from which he is called to be anointed and which he, in turn, is sent to anoint.” – Pope Francis, Chrism Mass Homily.
