DANBURY—Sister Thaddeus Rajca was the most recent recipient of the Monsignor Robert E. Weiss Award in recognition of her dedication to the St. Rose community in Newtown. She received the award at the St. Rose School Blooms Benefit at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury on October 21.
Sister Thaddeus professed her final vows as a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth 61 years ago. In that time, she served as the Secretary General of her congregation for nine years, meeting with Pope John Paul II several times over the years.
She returned to Connecticut in 2002, and first worked in St. Rose School’s religious education office and as the preschool director. From there, she became the school’s spiritual coordinator, planning the weekly school Mass and serving as a religion teacher for sixth and seventh graders.
“Many students come to her at all ages to receive their sacraments,” said Laura Moulder, St. Rose School’s director of mission advancement. “She is a light in our halls and hearts.”
