Sister Victoria Ann Nolan, DC died on January 7, 2018 at St. Louise House in Menands. Sister was 98 years of age and 80 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity.
Born in Albany, NY on April 22, 1919, Sister Victoria was one of three children born to Agnes Kent and John Nolan. Sister Victoria joined the Community of Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in December of 1937. Sister Victoria graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School in Albany, NY. She furthered her education in Nursing at Catholic University, DC with a Bachelor’s in Science Degree in Nursing in 1951 and a Master’s in Nursing Education in 1957. In 1984, Sister Victoria became a Certified Chaplain through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Early in her ministry, Sister Victoria served in Primary Care Education at St. Martin’s School, Baltimore, MD. After that she served on the following missions: Our Lady of Lourdes School, Utica, NY; Providence Hospital, Washington, DC; St. Mary’s Hospital, Saginaw, MI; again at Providence Hospital, Washington, DC; Seton Institute, Baltimore, MD; St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, MD; Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, FL; St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, NY and DePaul Provincial House, Jamaica, NY; was Sister Servant (Local Community Superior) while at St. John Parish Center, Utica, NY; St. Joseph Hall, Philadelphia, PA; Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY and St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT.
On May 2, 2009, Sister joined the Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House, Albany, NY.
Sister Victoria is survived by her nephew Robert Nolan and his wife Janice; a niece, Dara Storm and a nephew, Douglas Nolan and a great nephew, Austin Nolan; first cousins Marie Neidl and Sister Ellen Boyle and cousins Mary and Jim Nolan. Sister Victoria was predeceased by her brothers John and Arthur.
A Wake Service for Sister Victoria Nolan, DC was held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm at DePaul Provincial House Chapel, 96 Menands Road, Menands, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Victoria Nolan, DC, was celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at DePaul Provincial House Chapel. Burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
