St Joseph’s 178 Graduating Seniors Earn $25 Million in College Awards and Scholarships

TRUMBULL—St Joseph High School, striving to be southern Connecticut’s premier college preparatory school, is proud to announce that on Saturday, June 2, 2018, they graduated 178 students who have collectively earned more than 25 million dollars in scholarships and financial aid.

The 2018 Commencement was held at Dalling Field on the school’s campus. Dr Steven F Cheeseman, Superintendent of Schools (Diocese of Bridgeport), Ms Vicki A Tesoro, First Selectman (Town of Trumbull), and Mr Christopher Wilson, Chairman of the Board (St Joseph High School) were in attendance and offered remarks and prayers to all in attendance.

In addition, Lavanya Sambaraju and James Bove, this year’s Valedictorian and Salutatorian respectively, shared inspiring and heartfelt words with their peers.

“Our lives both suddenly and gradually changed when we chose to attend St Joes,” remarked Valedictorian Lavanya Sambarju, who delivered the Farewell Address. “We all grew from young, childlike freshmen to mature seniors. I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of that growing process for us, including our parents and teachers. We have worked hard over the years, Class of 2018, but it does not and it cannot end here. Don’t forget, we cannot be complacent. Our respective colleges await us, and with hard work, I look forward to seeing what each and every one of you accomplish in the future.”

“This Class of 2018, the smallest at St Joes, have won for themselves $25,729,136 dollars in grants and scholarships to some of the finest schools in the country. That’s a record for St Joseph High School,” Head of School, Dr William Fitzgerald remarked to the graduates and their families. “40% of this class will attend 26 Catholic colleges; 98% will attend a four-year school. And…we have a National Merit Scholar Finalist.”

“St Joseph High School is a very special place,” remarked Dr James Keane, Principal. “The hard work and dedication of our students has truly paid off! Achieving over $25 million dollars in scholarships is no small feat – we couldn’t be more proud of the job they have done.”

In September 2018, St Joseph High School expects an enrollment of 810. The school provides a learning environment that embraces the Gospel values of the Roman Catholic faith and promotes a commitment to family and community. SJHS prepares young women and men to realize their potential, helps them to excel in higher education, and provides a foundation to guide them throughout their lives. In 2017, St Joseph High School opened a Wetlands and Nature Boardwalk and in 2018, a state of the art Health & Wellness Center open to students and alumni. Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, alumni, and friends, the school continues to grow into great each and every day.
