STRATFORD—A new Administrator was recently appointed at St. Mark School in Stratford. Mr. Scott Clough assumed the post of Principal, effective July 1, 2017. Clough replaces Mrs. Donna Wuhrer, who retired from the position after 3 years as school leader.
Clough, the unanimous first choice of the principal search committee, toured Stratford’s “Blue Ribbon School of Excellence” last week. Clough met with Wuhrer, St. Mark Parish Pastor and Superintendent of Schools to discuss a transition plan for his new role.
In a recent letter to parents, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steven Cheeseman, announced Mr. Clough’s appointment. “Mr. Clough brings with him a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm as well as an understanding of curriculum, 21st century learning, and the effective use of technology to improve instruction. I am confident that he can lead St. Mark School to a new level of excellence and that his experiences will help to ensure that when students graduate St. Mark School, they will be well prepared for high school.” Dr. Cheeseman is also a parent of a seventh grader at St. Mark School.
Clough holds a Bachelor of Science in History and Minor in Economics, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Studies and an Advanced Certificate in School Building Leader.
Clough served as a teacher for just over 10 years at The Ursuline School, a 6th to 12th grade private Catholic college preparatory school in New Rochelle, NY. During his time there he held several key leadership positions and focused on teacher and course development and instructional improvement. Most recently, Clough served as Chairman of the Social Studies Department and 12th grade Advanced Placement Macroeconomics Teacher. Clough is credited for designing and developing the first ever AP Economic class at Ursuline.
Clough is also very active in youth sports in his community, serving as JV Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for the Bethel High’s Girls Basketball Team.
Clough is married and lives in Bethel. He has a 3 1/2 year old son and he and his wife are expecting another child in November.
“I am excited and honored to have been selected as the new Principal of St. Mark School. St. Mark School has a proud legacy of academic excellence, spiritual and moral development and service to the community. I look forward to getting to know the students, parents, faculty and staff that make up this wonderful community,” Clough said.
A meet and greet event for the families of St. Mark School is currently being planned and will be announced next week.
