Tenor to Guest with St. Emery Festival Choir

FAIRFIELD—The Saint Emery Festival Choir, led by Music Director Anthony Procaccini, welcomes guest artist tenor Matthew Surapine as part of its Guest Artist series on Sunday May 21 at the 9:00am Mass.

Choral selections will include Kyrie by Dana Mengel, while Mr. Surapine will sing To the Glory of Our King by Robert Leaf.

Immediately after mass, all are invited to a “coffee and” reception in the hall, courtesy of Parish Council members and volunteers, and to thank the choir members for their efforts.

Matthew Surapine, a graduate of the Hartt School of Music, is an accomplished tenor, actor and music director who has won acclaim across North America for the beauty of his singing and for his spirited stage portrayals. The Toronto Globe and Mail lauded his performance of Hortensius in La Fille du Regiment with “brilliant timing, breezily free movement, and the spirit of Franklin Pangborn”.

Other credits of his include Beppe in I Pagliacci, Count Almaviva in Il Baribiere di Siviliga, and Sam Polk in Susannah. Mr. Surapine has appeared as a guest artist at the Bar Harbor Festival.

His orchestral repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. He is currently Director of Music at Saint Aedan’s Parish in Pearl River, NY. He has served in the same capacity at St. Clement’s in Stamford, Saint Mary’s in Norwalk and Saint Ladilaus in Norwalk.
