What’s the Capital of…?

DANBURY—Six schools from the greater Danbury area sent contestants to the Knights of Columbus Catholic Geography Bee, held March 3 at St. Joseph School in Danbury.

Contestants from fourth through eighth grades answered questions about world, U.S., and Connecticut geography, including Catholic content. Freddy(Frederick) Rio, a seventh-grade student at St. Mary School in Ridgefield, shown here with Peter Passarelli, left, Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus McGivney Council #29, and Herman Izzard, right, District Deputy for the Knights of Columbus for the Danbury area. Freddy won first prize in the 16th elimination round (!), outlasting second-place Charles Asetta, a fifth-grade student at St. Rose of Lima School in Newtown. Kelly Martella of St. Mary School in Ridgefield took third place.

In addition to the $100 first-place prize from the Knights, Immaculate High School also provided prizes, awarding a watch for first place and an umbrella for second.
