Youth Choir Spring Concert Set for Sunday

BRIDGEPORT—The Diocesan Youth Choir will “Lift Every Voice” in its upcoming Spring Concert set for this Sunday, April 29th, at 4:00 pm at St. Theresa Parish (5301 Main St, Trumbull, CT 06611) in Trumbull.

The concert, open free of charge to the public, will follow the annual Wedding Jubilee Mass celebrated by Bishop Frank J. Caggiano. The Mass will begin at 3:00 pm.

The 80-member choir, under the direction of Mary Higgins of Wilton, includes young people throughout the diocese, and was formed out of the energy of the synod.

“This is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ for the support of parents, sponsors and all those who have attended our performances,” said Higgins.

The 50-minute performance will feature new pieces for the choir: “He is Exalted” by Twila Paris, “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say” by Lloyd Larson and “We Are Called” by David Haas.

Among other pieces, the choir will also perform returning favorite: “When you Believe” composed by Steven Schwartz for the Prince of Egypt movie. The final song will invite audience participation for the singing of “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by John Rutter.

“So many of the choir members are enthusiastic about their faith. I am amazed and inspired by these young people who really embrace and love their faith and share it with others by singing in the choir. I watch how their spirit rubs off on other young people. Through their singing, they share their joy and kindness,” Higgins said.

The choir features students in grades 7 through 12, and is open to all young people of all faiths. Higgins said she is very interested in hearing from young Catholics in the public schools who would like to join.

(The Lift Every Voice Concert will take place immediately following the Wedding Jubilee Mass, and is being presented as a special gift to those celebrating anniversaries).
