Malta House names new board members

Malta House Board, Fr.Sam Kachuba, Heather Keane, Troy Pinto

Malta House, a Norwalk-based non-profit committed to providing shelter, support services and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers and their children, announced the appointment of three new directors:

Father Sam Kachuba, Vicar for Young Adult Ministries of the Diocese of Bridgeport, the former pastor of St. Pius X Parish, and the co-host of “The Tangent” on Veritas Catholic Network.

Heather Keane, owner and Chief Marketing Officer of Stamford-based Visiting Angels, an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of aging adults.

Troy Pinto, a LinkedIn executive who leads client-facing teams focused on talent acquisition and development, supporting LinkedIn’s mission to create economic opportunity for the global workforce.

“These talented and passionate individuals will be a tremendous asset to our board,” said Michael O’Rourke, Chair of Malta House’s Board of Directors. “Each brings a unique set of skills for supporting our long-term vision for transforming the lives of vulnerable mothers and their young children.”

Malta House is committed to providing a lifeline of hope, safety and stability for their residents experiencing homelessness, O’Rourke said.  Since its founding in 1998, it has grown into a ministry that has helped more than 900 vulnerable mothers and their children. Mothers receive counseling, financial education, and parental development followed by transitional and post-residential support.

“Malta House is very close to my heart,” said Keane. “The support provided to mothers navigating crisis pregnancies is a life-giving vocation.  I look forward to introducing moms who have experienced their caring support to our team at Visiting Angels for potential future employment opportunities.”

“I was inspired by the difference Malta House made in the lives of women and babies when I leveraged my experience in the recruiting field to help their moms build resumes and search for jobs,” Pinto said. “As a Catholic, I believe strongly that if we are going to encourage women to have children, even in tough circumstances, we need to do everything in our power to support them. This is a calling that the Lord is asking me to be part of and I am honored to be of service. “

For Father Kachuba, Malta House is a natural extension of the diocesan ministry he leads for advancing and supporting those in need.

“The nurturing home environment and support programs for needy moms of all faiths are a lifeline for women marginalized by society seeking direction in their lives,” he said. “Malta House’s track record in helping hundreds of women and their children break the cycle of poverty is impressive and I am thrilled to support them.”

Established in 1998, Malta House is an independent 501c 3 non-profit organization in Norwalk, committed to promoting the dignity of God-given life by providing a nurturing home environment, support services, and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children. Representatives said it is the only transitional living program in the state where a mom can stay with her baby for long-term support and a “hand-up” as she journeys to independence and hope. Since opening it has welcomed over 900 mothers and babies to its home and provided over 8,900 nights of shelter.

In addition to its Residential Program, Malta House has additional programs to support moms and babies. The Graduate Program supports mothers and their children who have “graduated” and are living independently. The Nursery Program is available to residents attending classes or working. The Community Outreach Program supports moms and children from low-income families throughout Fairfield County.
