WESTON — St. Francis of Assisi Parish will hold its 16th annual Family Fun Carnival on October 3-4 from noon to 6 pm, rain or shine, at 35 Norfield Road.
The carnival, which is preceded by a blessing of pets, includes a hayride (on Sunday only, 1-5 pm), inflatables, games, live music, food trucks, drink, craft vendors, face painting, drawings for prizes and more.
“We are thrilled with how many people from all over Fairfield County attend each year,” said Sandra Jester, carnival chairperson. “The air is full of laughter and joy as families enjoy a beautiful afternoon together. This is the 16th anniversary of the carnival, and we love how this has become part of celebrating fall for so many families in Fairfield County. With food, entertainment, rides, games and lots to do, there is something for everyone.”
All animals and their pet parents are invited to a Blessing of the Animals before the carnival on Saturday, October 3 at 11 am in the St. Francis of Assisi parking lot. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals. October 3 is the 800th anniversary of his death and being observed worldwide.
Born in 1181, he preached about the importance of protecting and enjoy nature and everything in it. In his honor, all pets will be blessed. People and pets of all religions are welcome.
Jester said the carnival will have games for all ages, including Ax Throw, Pop a Balloon and Lucky Ducky for children with winners all day long. For several games, every player is a winner. For those over 21, there are adult games, such as Win Some Cheer, Mystery Boxes and Outdoor Fun.
Inflatables appeal to children of all ages, she said. Younger children have fun on the bounce house. Older kids enjoy Euro Bungee, Giant Slide and the Obstacle Course. Bracelets will be sold each day for all-day limitless rides.
The carnival will also have food trucks, including Mister Softee and the Knights of Columbus food tent, which will serve burgers, hot dogs, meatball heroes and sausage/peppers/onions. Carnival fare, including hot pretzels, popcorn and cotton candy will also be sold, as well as water, juice, wine, beer and coffee.
People are invited to come for lunch, dinner, or a carnival snack, and enjoy live music, Jester said. On Saturday, music is provided by Ridgefield School of Rock from noon to 2:30 pm and Furious George Band from 3-6 pm. Sunday music is provided by Silver Steel Band from 12:30-3 pm and Two of Us from 3-6 pm.
Jester said that event sponsors are Crisdel construction, Fairfield County Bank and Frank Roth CNC machining/ fabrication/welding.
