Wheeler Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Diocese of Bridgeport provides the Wheeler Employee Assistance Program at no cost to every employee.
Through Wheeler's EmployeeCare platform you and the people who live with you can reach a counselor, an attorney, or a financial specialist any hour of the day, any day of the year — by phone, online, by video, or in person.
Common Questions
Is it really confidential?
Yes. Wheeler EAP is a separate organization from the Diocese. Wheeler does not tell the Diocese who contacted them or what was discussed. The narrow exceptions are the ones required by law — for example, where there is a risk of serious harm.
Who can use it?
All Diocese of Bridgeport employees — Curia, parishes, schools and cemeteries — along with members of their household.
Does it cost anything?
No. The Diocese pays for the program, and EAP sessions and consultations are free to you. If you choose to continue with a referred service beyond what the program covers — ongoing legal representation, for instance — that service may have a cost, usually at a member discount.
Can my family use it?
Yes. Household members can use the same services and the same 24-hour phone line, whether or not you call yourself.
What kinds of things can I call about?
Stress and burnout, anxiety, grief, a difficult relationship at home or at work, parenting, caring for an aging parent, finding childcare, a legal question, debt or a mortgage, identity theft, or planning ahead for a family member. If you are unsure, call and ask — the specialist will point you to the right service.
How do I get started?
Call 1-800-275-3327 at any hour, or log in to the member portal at employeecareonline.com. You do not need to notify your supervisor or the HR office.
