Georgetown

Sacred Heart Parish
30 Church Street, PO Box 388  |  Georgetown, CT

Men’s Ministry: Meets Saturdays at 7:00–8:30 am in Pryor-Hubbard Hall, on the Sacred Heart Church campus, 30 Church Street, Georgetown. We know it’s early, but it’s time well spent that won’t get in the way of family time. There are a lot of distractions in today’s world that can make it difficult being the men God calls us to be. Guided by scripture (and fueled by coffee and donuts), the members of the Sacred Heart and St. Patrick Men’s Ministry uses weekly Scripture readings to discuss the daily challenges in our Christian walk, how God can help us each day, and how we can support and encourage each other. Topics we’ve covered include: Faith, Family, Work, Discipleship and Dealing with Failure. Our primary mission is to help men enrich their relationship with Jesus Christ and apply their faith to their daily lives.

Women’s Faith Group: Meets every other Wednesday from 6:00-7:15 pm in Mercy Hall on the St. Patrick Church Campus. The purpose of the group is to meditate on the word of God and to look for ways to apply it to our daily lives as mothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends, as beloved children of God. It is a time for spiritual growth, for sharing our experiences as women, for strengthening our faith and for supporting one another in our spiritual life’s journey.

Bible Study and Spiritual Exercises/Retreats: Father Walsh offers regular Bible Study (recently the Gospel of John) session by Zoom and beginning in the fall a combination of classroom and Zoom.
We also offer various devotional opportunities throughout the year, such as a 30-Day book retreat for a Eucharistic Revival, and Consecration to Jesus through Mary using 33-Days to Morning Glory and True Devotion to Mary, in which participants meet weekly and Fr. Walsh provides context, commentary and answers questions.

Shippan Men’s Christian Fellowship: All Christian men are welcome. The goal of the Fellowship is to help one another find Christ in our lives and become better men (better fathers, better husbands, better professionals, better friends). We reflect on the Sacred Scriptures, pray and share recent spiritual consolations and desolation.

Christian Meditation: (this is for men and women): centering prayer (or contemplative prayer, prayer of quiet, prayer of the Cloud, meditation, etc.) as taught by the Cistercian monks from St. Joseph Abbey up in Spencer, MA over the last 40 years.  We get together, talk about it briefly about this form of prayer, practice it (30-40 min. in absolute silence), and then share with one another if we feel like it

The CHOSEN—Season 4: Don’t Miss it! Tuesday Zoom Bible Study Group—See the life of Jesus through the eyes of the people that walked on earth with him—the disciples, Mary, His Mother, and Pharisees!

If you’ve been watching along, or even if you haven’t, here’s your chance to view Season 4 with our upcoming bible study group. Great discussions follow each week’s video. Don’t worry if you haven’t seen Seasons 1-3, it’s easy to follow, as I’m sure you’ve read much of the story already. But, once you begin watching, you’ll want to ‘binge-watch’ from the beginning.

The series is set against the backdrop of Roman and Jewish oppression and offers an intimate look at Jesus’ teachings and ministry with a more recent flair added. The production quality of the series is impressive and liberties have been taken, where necessary, to “fill-in-the-blanks.” It is truly a wonderful way to bring the bible to life.

This bible study is a FREE 8-week course – no book to purchase, no reading and no homework.

Join us only via Zoom. Every Tuesday for 8 weeks starting June 25, 2024, at 7:00 pm (Please note this bible study is NOT AVAILABLE IN PERSON.)

In person Bible study will resume in the Fall.

Contact: Vicki Alton to register or for more information. Registration is necessary in order to receive the weekly ZOOM link.

Walking With Purpose for Middle School Girls
BLAZE is the Walking with Purpose ministry for middle-school-aged girls. The mission of BLAZE is to use Scripture to speak truth into the hearts of young girls who are bombarded by lies about their true worth and beauty. Each week, participants will be led through an ice breaker activity and a short lesson based on a lie found in the world and a truth found in Scripture. The girls will also leave with a small take-home gift which corresponds with the lesson. You can also learn more about the BLAZE ministry at walkingwithpurpose.com/blaze.
