Faith and Family at 100 Years

FAIRFIELD—Our Lady of the Assumption parishioner James Knick of Fairfield recently celebrated his 100th birthday with his wife of 78 years, Alice, and members of their family, coming together from all corners of the US.  He was also honored with his own Smucker’s jam centennials label!
Father Peter Cipriani, Assumption pastor, delivered the Grace and blessing at the recent family reunion.
Jim was born and raised in Danbury, attended local schools, and began his career in the Danbury area. His early loves included sailing, sketching, and playing the drums.
He met the love of his life, Alice, by the water cooler at Chance Vought Aircraft during World War II.  Soon after, they married and spent their early married years around Candlewood Lake. As the family grew, Jim’s career sent him to the Waterbury area.
Over the years, they raised eleven children in eleven different homes, all in Southwest Connecticut. It was quite unusual for families to move so often in those days, but Jim was a smart real estate investor and handy with home improvements.
Jim Knick’s efforts to house his growing family paid off and are the source of many fond memories for all his children. They also led to a career in real estate in the Fairfield area.
With the help and support of their daughters Mary, Judith, and Allison; Jim and Alice live in their home number eleven, where they have lived for the past thirty-eight years.
