The Archdiocese of Hartford is recording a “first” this year by inviting people to “fast” from using cell phones on Ash Wednesday, March 1st, and Good Friday, April 14th. The initiative in an initiative called: “I Phone Fast!” and it has the blessing of Archbishop Leonard Blair.
‘Silencing our busy phones, gives God a chance to call our hearts. Please consider including this practice in addition to fasting from food, almsgiving and prayer, which are traditional disciplines by which the Church observes Lent,” said Maria Zone, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese. Zone said the campaign is not meant to take the place of traditional Lenten disciplines but supplement them through personal reflection and silence.
