Immaculate Girls’ Field Hockey Coach Celebrates 200th Win

DANBURY–It was an especially exciting game for Immaculate’s Girls Field Hockey last weekend as Coach Shannon Horosky achieved her 200th win!

It all happened Saturday, October 21 at an Immaculate win (2-0) against Wamogo Regional High School of Litchfield, Connecticut. The team celebrated Coach Horosky’s milestone with “200” balloons on the field. Immaculate’s Girls Field Hockey Team won its ninth Patriot Division Championship this year. Assistant Coach Matthew Ariniello has also been part of this winning team over the years.

“We were thrilled at this news! Shannon is outstanding and extremely dedicated to Immaculate High School,” said Nelson Mingachos, Immaculate’s Athletic Director. “She is the ideal coach you want at your school, encouraging student-athletes at all levels – from four year starters to freshman players. She sets the bar high and expects the best from all her players.”

“I don’t look at this as personal but as evidence of the growth of our program,” said Horosky, a Danbury resident who has served as Immaculate’s Girls Field Hockey Coach for 14 years. “The credit goes back to the players and I’m so proud of all the work they put in. My favorite part is watching the development of students – to see how they come in as girls who can be a bit insecure but by the time they leave they are confident young women. They learn that they are capable of more than they thought and that through teamwork they can achieve anything!”

“I have been with Coach Shannon for three years and she has been instrumental in creating a winning culture and living up to our Immaculate values,” said Deirdre Dwyer ‘25 of Bridgewater, who is captain of the Girls Field Hockey Team.

Niche just ranked Immaculate #8 Best High School for Athletes out of 249 schools in Connecticut. The school is home to 27 varsity sports and has a tradition of athletic excellence that includes 48 conference championships and 37 state championships.
