Special Collection for the people of Haiti

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Most Rev. Jose Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), has asked that dioceses across the country take a voluntary special collection to provide humanitarian relief to the people of Haiti to assist them during their long-term recovery.

In the Diocese of Bridgeport, this collection will be taken in parishes on the weekends of August 21/22 or August 28/29.

In his letter, Archbishop Gomez offers his prayerful support to the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the recent earthquake that was followed by Tropical Storm Grace. He notes that both disasters have destroyed many Church properties along with homes and businesses and the damages will have a long-lasting impact.

Checks can be made payable to each parish, memo: Special Haiti Collection. All funds collected will be sent to the Office of Finance at the Diocese.
