St. Augustine Medal Ceremony this weekend

BRIDGEPORT—The St. Augustine Medal of Service prayer service and awards ceremony will be held this Saturday, November 6, at St. Augustine Cathedral, 399 Washington Avenue in Bridgeport.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 safety precautions, awards will be presented in two sessions, the first at 11 am and the second beginning at 1:30 pm.

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano will lead the prayer service and present medals to more than 110 recipients and their invited guests. Honorees will be recognized for their volunteer service to parishes, schools and charities throughout Fairfield County.

“We are blessed and fortunate to be able to meet in person once again and celebrate our St. Augustine medalists as mentors, guides and prophets in their love and service. I look forward to celebrating with them and their families during this joyous occasion,” the bishop said.

Many pastors and priests are expected to be on hand to accompany the parishioners they nominated for the awards.

The St. Augustine Medal of Service was instituted in 2005 to recognize the “unsung heroes” who unselfishly give of their time and talents to build up parish communities and in Diocesan ministries. On one side of the medal is an image of St. Augustine of Hippo, patron saint of the diocese. The reverse features the coat of arms of the diocese.

Parking is available on the grounds of the Cathedral campus. All honorees and their guests are required to wear masks inside of the Cathedral.
