All Souls’ Day Masses

BRIDGEPORT—Bishop Frank J. Caggiano will celebrate All Souls’ Day Mass at St. Mary-Putnam Cemetery, 399 North Street, Greenwich on Thursday, November 2, 11 am.

All Souls’ Day Masses will also be celebrated in six cemeteries throughout the Diocese on November 2. All Masses will begin at 11 am.

All are welcome to attend the outdoor Masses, which will be offered for the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed. Holy Water from Lourdes will be distributed after Mass at each location.

Celebrants in the other locations include Father John Connaughton (TBC), St. John Cemetery, Darien; Father Francis Hoffmann, St. John Cemetery Norwalk; Father Brian Gannon, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull; Father Abelardo Vazquez assisted by Deacon David Rivera, St. Michael, Stratford, and Father Greg Mecca and Father Sam Scott will concelebrate Mass at St. Peter, Danbury.

“As we remember the faithful departed on All Souls’ Day, it is also a moment for us to regain perspective on what truly matters in life,” said Bishop Caggiano at last year’s Mass. “We pray not only for the dead, but also for one another. No one will escape the mystery of death. You and I will stand before God in the fullness of our life, and others will be praying for us.”

The bishop thanked the pastors and priests who will be celebrating this year’s Masses and encouraged Catholics throughout the diocese to pray that all those who have died may rest in the peace of Christ.

(The Masses will be celebrated rain or shine under large outdoor tents. Arrangements and logistics for the day are supported by Catholic Cemeteries. The diocese sponsors and maintains 10 active cemeteries in Fairfield County. For information on Catholic Cemeteries, call 203.742.1450 or go to info@ctcemeteries.org.)
