Before I became the social media leader for the Diocese of Bridgeport, none of my friends were Roman Catholic.

When I share that with my co-workers in ministry, they are often upset, but not necessarily surprised. BRIDGEPORT—St. Vincent’s Farm Stand will host a cooking demo by a local chef Tuesday, July 18 from 12 noon-1 pm at the site of its farmers market, located immediately in front of its main entrance. The event is free and open to the public and is one of four cooking demos to be held at St. Vincent’s Famers Market. The other three dates for cooking demos are August 8, September 12 and October 10. No registration is necessary.

St. Vincent’s Farmer Stand operates every Tuesday from 11:30 am-4 pm through October 31.

FAIRFIELD—Twenty-four high school students from across the state were selected to attend the second annual SHU Journey residential mentoring program in late June. The Lilly Endowment Summer Theological Institute for High School Youth provided funding for the weeklong event.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA More than 100 Catholic leaders attending the Leadership Roundtable’s annual convening in Orlando said the church needs to go beyond “engaging laity” to “appointing, recruiting, promoting and empowering diverse lay leaders.”

“This requires laity and ordained being in right relationship as co-responsible for the mission” of the Catholic Church, said the group in a statement released after the close of its June 29-30 meeting.
